Planning - Photo Shoot

The artist (Jack Boyle) will stand with his guitar and will be playing it like he's on stage. There will be other shots, one with him standing up - this will go next to the feature page but it will look like he is leaning on the text. There will be another picture of him on the contents page holding his guitar. There will be other pictures on the contents page to fill the space. The feature page will have four pictures on it.

Feedback 9.2.11

Chris, you're making good progress here. Please continue to work on this blog in your own time to complete the planning work in time for next wek's lessons. Next week you should be writing your article and taking photos. After half term you need to be working on page layout and design.

Equipment and Technology that will be used

In this project I will be using; Indesign, Photoshop and a digital camera (tripod if needed).
I will be using the indesign software to create and design my magazine. There is a wide selection of tools i can use such as; gradient, rotate, anchor, and a framing tool. I will use photoshop to edit my photographs, e.g;  cut outs, coloring etc. And use Indesign to create my magazine pages.

Institution to produce Magazine

I have decided to go with the IPC institution because it already has 23% of the total magazine category, it also has famous magazines already such as; NME, Nuts, the field and country life.

Investigating the top 40

Here we can see all sorts of genres but we can see that towards the top he genres are indie/pop, r&b. This shows us that people prefer those genres. We can see that there are no heavy songs in the top 40, so again this is making me question the style of music my magazine is going to be advertising because the audience prefer these genres.

Circulation Figures

I have found these results and it has made me think about the style of music my magazine will involve. I have decided to go for a look that could appeal to anyone so it will involve more categories.

Here is my annotated front page.  I have chosen to annotate this front cover because it will be similar to mine. And i an take ideas from it.

College Magazine (prelim)

Here is my front cover for my prelim task.

I have learnt how to put together a front cover. This is very basic. For my real task i will put more headings, better headings, better colors more information and i will make it look real.

This Double page spread has a positive look, the colours compliment eachother, There are quite a few pictures. The quotes the band have made are hughlighted in blue there are different fonts for different headings. It has a little information box at the bottom. overall this double page looks like it is for a female audience mine will be similar but for a male audience, less sky blue, more sharp colours. Like this one: There isnt too much writing and the pictures fill the space so this double page also looks good and looks like it is for a male audience.

Target Audience

The audience i have decided to create my magazine for is the 16-20+ range. Demographic Profiling would say i chose the C1 and below sections. The Psychographic Profiling suggest my target audience to include; Mainstreamers, Aspirers and Succeeders. because they have the money to buy the magazine and don't want to waste it on a bad magazine, they will choose the safe option.

Results form my questionnaire

1) 5/7 people said they read magazines
2) 2/7 said they buy magazines weekly, 4/7 said they buy magazines monthly, 1/7 said they buy them rarely
3) 3/7 people said they would spend only £1, 1/7 said they would spend only £2, 3/7 said they would spend up to £4
4) 1/7 said they like classical rock, 4/7 liked pop, 1/7 metal, 1/7 liked rap
5) The front cover and its features, who is on the front, title, and what sort of music.
6) 7/7 said they like to have alot of pictures
7) 4/7 said they liked their magazine to have bold bright colours and 3/7 saind they did not.

Band Images

 This picture indicates the music is for a wide audience, their syle of music is for any age group. The colours have pink, red, green, yellow, black and white which doesn't indicate the gender the music is for, the picture has an acoustic guitar on it so it could mean their style of music is not heavy metal but more indie, pop. This picture:Indicates that their style of music will not be pop or indie simply because of their costume, dark colours and band name, these features suggest their music to be more metal/rock.

Unique Selling Point

The unique selling point or whats different about my magazine is it will have interviws with the artist about things like what inspired him, future plans, favourate instruments, the magazine will also contain a code for the artists website. This code will allow them to download the artists first album for free. I believe this will make people want to by it if they think they will be getting new artists albums every week for the price of a magazine.

Chris, You need to be working on this blog in your own time. By now you should also have posted the conventions of magazines. I need to see this and your completed prelim (front cover, sketch of contnents and reflection) posted by the end of the week. Please book yuor workshop time for next week qwith Nikki or Mike.

Ideas

My magazine will be be for a male 16+ audience.
Genre - rock/pop
It will have a catchy title and bold and colourful  red, black, yellow writing.
Cutouts of Star. Other pictures of the star, barcode, date and price.
Headings and subtitles.

Contents page - pictures, information on what is on the pages,
other headings and upcoming events.
